THE AKC CANINE GOOD CITIZEN PROGRAM ... promoting responsible dog ownership for owners and basic training for dogs.

The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test was created to recognize dogs that have outstanding manners when interacting with people both at home and in the community. It is a ten step evaluation and all of those who pass receive a certificate directly from AKC. All dogs and handlers must successfully complete all ten steps in order to pass the test Owners may use this test as a prerequisite to most therapy dog tests. The ten steps are as follows:

*Accept a friendly stranger

*Sit Politely for Petting

*Appearance and grooming

*Out For Walk ( walking on a loose leash

*Walk Through a Crowd

*Sit and Down on Command/Staying in Place

*Come When Called (Recall)

*Reaction to Another Dog

*Reactions to Distractions

*Supervised Separation
